Merry Christmas to me!!! My hubby is the greatest, he gave me an early Christmas present...it's the new living room furniture I've been wanting!! Yay!! It's fun furniture with some style. I love the little round retro chair that spins and it's oh so comfy. Thank you Brian Kendrick this is one of my favorite Christmas presents ever!!

With the addition of Braxton Jaydon Kasey to the family also brought the first of Mamaw's Great great grandchildren. This in my opinion is a HUGE deal. Not many families get to see something this special and I felt privileged to be asked to take pictures of this precious family event. Seems like just yesterday I met this beautiful long haired little 2 year old girl named Brittany, when actually it was 19 years ago. This week she gave birth to a beautiful baby boy Braxton. We made a trip up to the hospital to meet him in person and he is absolutely beautiful. Congratulations to Brittany and Matt!!

Ahhh yes...the leaves are changing color, the winds are picking up, it's turning cooler at night...that can only mean one thing, it's time for the Annual Kendrick Fall Festival!!! This year was just as successful as the 12 years past, we had hayrides, boat races, wedding vow renewals, bingo, cake walks, a raffle, bobbing for apples, pumpkin tosses, games and more games, live music, the barn was decorated to the MAX, tons of food, fun and fellowship with our friends, loved ones and our church family. Thank you Lord for blessing us once again this year with beautiful weather.

I love this time of year for two reasons, the changing of the colorful leaves and Rhythm and Roots!! This year it was even more fabulous because Jen & Doug have a loft apartment looking right down on Main St. They are always the most gracious hosts and they showed us all a wonderful time. You can actually look out the window and see the main stage where all of the big bands play. Brian and I always visit the Borderline Billiards Stage as well...this year it was one of my FAVES playing there on Saturday night...Big Daddy Love! They rocked the stage, we danced until I couldn't feel my legs anymore. Too much fun! I am looking forward to doing it again next year. One day I will have a loft like this, crossing my fingers.

August races at BMS have come and gone once again. We had a blast this year with Lee & Amber and my hubby's coworkers. We even got to pay a visit to the Bristol Club Suite and the Roof in Turn 4. It was amazing to watch the race from right there in the center of the pits. It was AWESOME!! Nothing beats good times with great people.

Good news all of you mud boggin' junkies...our local mud bog now has a website of their own...FINALLY!! You can find a slideshow at http://strutinintheruts.weebly.com/slideshow.html
You can also like them on Facebook. We made it down there this evening and had a great time as always. The price had gone up to $7 & rather than starting at 7pm they got started much later so that was a little disappointing. John also brought back the 4 wheeler event this year where tonight he mixed it up a little and instead of the 4 wheelers doing straight passes for fastest time he made a small obstacle course for riders to try. The spectators voted and it was unanimous that everyone liked the obstacle course the best. The mud was soupy and deep. I have posted a video above that you can also view on YouTube. So Mud Diggers...get your ride, saddle up and head down to Church Hill on Saturday night and check it out.

It's so hard to believe that my hubby has turned 40. It just seems like yesterday when I first met him at the age of 17. Then it dawned on me how blessed I have been to have this wonderful man in my life for the past 23 years. We didn't give him a hard time about turning 40 we just tried to show him a good time & I am pretty positive we succeeded. Everyone showered him with gifts & love. We spoiled him by taking him out to eat, then to Border Bash, and the next day to his favorite yearly car show in North Carolina, and then to see his favorite singer Aaron Lewis in concert. On Sunday the birthday luau at church. It has been a wonderful time celebrating with this precious man I am lucky to call my husband Brian. I love you Brian.

What can I say about Anna Maria Island Florida...."Beautiful"...I have never been to such a perfect beach and community. From the time we crossed over the Palma Sola Bay on Manatee Ave onto the Island we were pleasantly surprised by the laid back island atmosphere. As we landed at our first stop which was Holmes Beach we were in awe of the powdery white sand and the clear, warm, emerald waters of the Gulf of Mexico. We spent hours splashing, floating and shelling on this beach before heading north to Anna Maria City Beach. Here we had a fabulous lunch at The Sandbar Restaurant. There was a fabulous gift shop and bar area with an outdoor beachfront dining area which is where we were seated to a table where we could dine with our feet in the sand. After lunch we explored this part of the island and we were not disappointed. From the quaint inns and hotels to the fabulous homes all the way around to Bimini Bay and the City Pier, it all felt so tropical and "old Florida style" which I loved. Later we headed down to Bradenton and Cortez Beaches where we found a lot of shells as the tide washed in. A drive down to Longboat Key and a decision was made that this will be our new winter or early spring vacation spot from now on. No need to use your car either. You can bike or ride the free island trolley everywhere. Siesta Key Beach and Sarasota are just a few minutes to the south and St. Pete and Tampa Bay to the north. Definitely put this destination on your Bucket List people. You will not be disappointed. I am dreaming of the day we go back. It can't be soon enough.

I just recently returned from a quick visit to Florida and normally I jump right on here and post all of my beach pictures and tell all about my trip. I will do that in another post. There was something far more special about my Florida vacation trip. You see Florida is where one of the most important people in my entire life resides...my Mamaw Garnet. Just look at these pictures, isn't she beautiful!!!

My Mamaw has been my very best friend from day one of this life. I have such a great time reliving my childhood memories with her. I can pull into her driveway & to this day I still get that excited feeling I did as a child when Mom and Dad would take me to her house to spend the night or just to visit. Whether we were playing cards, making fudge or homemade apple pies, jumping on her beds, cutting up left over material with electric sissors, singing into a tape recorder, pretending to be news and weather reporters while she recorded us, or dressing up with her Mary Kay makeup and all of her jewelry, my sister and I always have a blast with her. She is so full of life and young at heart.

I always feel so at home when I stay with her. As I laid in her guest bed and looked up at the pictures on the wall of my Dad and his brother I felt as if I were 5 years old again staying at her house because those same two pictures have always hung in the guest bedroom. As I stood in her bedroom glancing around I see the same sewing machine that I remember her letting us use when we were little. In the kitchen there is the familiar china cabinet and table, the table that we played Rook and Rummy or Shanghi at all those years ago. Everything about Mamaw's house brings back wonderful childhood memories.

I love being able to talk to her about everything, anything, nothing is off limits. I can be honest or I can be silly with her. If I were an outlaw she would be my partner in crime! I am her biggest fan and she is mine. I hope that everyone out there has someone this special in their lives. The only regret I have is that Tennessee and Florida aren't neighboring states. She is a twelve hour drive from my house but only a two hour flight so I will be visiting her again very soon. I don't plan on ever letting too much time go by without going to see her again.

Garnet is a precious jewel...that definitely describes her in my opinion.

Awesome Vacation in Tybee Island

We spent Memorial Day weekend on Tybee Island with Brian's parents. This trip was a gift for Betty's Mother's Day present and Doug's Birthday present. We all had so much fun none of us wanted to come home. The weather was perfect, the island was full of activity, we even took everyone over to Savannah for a day and showed them all around the city. The condo we rented from Sandy's By The Shore was spactacular!! Ryan spent a lot of time playing his guitar down on Tybrisa Street at night (see video below) or on the beach and he actually made money :) I really enjoyed the live bands & dancing at Spanky's. I will be going back this summer. Tybee Island has become my favorite place to vacation.

We had an awesome time in Tybee Island GA for Memorial Day but my son Ryan had a blast playing his acoustic guitar down on the beach & on Tybrisa Street at night. He actually made money :) Anyway on this night he was joined by a super fun guy that we got to know. He can really belt out the songs. Had a blast. This Mother's Day was one of the best yet. I awoke to a loving husband and son bearing gifts. I was very happy to find a gift certificate for a Spa Day in my card...thanks guys! Brian also gave us (his Mother and I) a wonderful surprise gift of a vacation in Tybee Island and Savannah, GA. His Mother was so surprised and I've never seen her that excited. The next surprise of the day was for my Mother. We hopped in the car and drove up to West Virginia to surprise her at her church service. She was shocked!! We all enjoyed seeing the happiness on her face the entire day. I noticed that she was still beaming after our Mother's Day dinner at our favorite restaurant. Much love to all you Mom's out there...you have the hardest but most rewarding job in the WORLD.

I am so proud to announce the graduation of my son Ryan. It is scheduled for May 20th and it will be the greatest birthday present I could ever get. I get to watch my son walk across the stage and receive the diploma that he has worked so hard for. The first three pictures are the ones he chose to use for his announcements. March brings NASCAR to East Tennessee and this year I brought my sister to the racetrack for her first time. We had a blast!!! She and I covered every square inch of Ford Fan Friday. We played around in the campground, entered contests, watched practice & qualifying, and learned all about corn hole. My little sis was amazed at how much fun the races can be. On Saturday I took my guys & enjoyed it all over again. I love Bristol Motor Speedway!

Our Baby Turns 18!!

Brian and I are as happy today as we were 18 years ago when our little bundle of joy came into this world. It's so hard to believe our son is now an adult. Ryan enjoyed a whole weekend of celebrations. He bought a sweet Ford F150 with his money and is so happy he finally has his own ride. On Saturday his Grandparents from WV came down and we all went out for dinner and came back to the house for cake and presents. On Sunday we had a surprise birthday celebration for him after Sunday night church service. The pastor brought Ryan to the front of the church and after some words of advice we all went downstairs & our whole church family came together to welcome Ryan into adulthood. On Monday the actual day of his birth he enjoyed dinner out with his beautiful girlfriend. It's so amazing what a difference a year can bring. We are so proud of where Ryan has been, what he has come through, and the potential for where he is going in this life. Happy 18th baby!

Make Sure You Clip Your Dog's Toenails Regularly

Ok people I cannot stress how important it is to regularly clip your dog's toenails, especially after the experience we had over the weekend with Rascal. You see I made a mental note last week to give Rascal a bath and clip his nails. Turns out mental notes don't work very well in your late 30's ;) On Saturday Rascal and Bozo were running around our backyard having a BLAST!! In a split second Rascal caught his nail on something in the yard and twisted it completely around. He immediately started limping and it was so sad to see this. He would not let us touch it. We ended up taking him to the vet where they removed the nail and gave him a shot of pennicillin then bandaged up his little foot. We were informed that this happens a lot even with house dogs because theirs can get lodged in carpet or a crack in a floor. Rascal immediately perked up and is comfortably resting on the couch, as seen pictured above. So please, please never forget to clip your dog's nails on a regular basis so you can avoid this type of injury for your pup.

Count Down to Mud Bog Time!!

The hubby reminded me the other day to update my Mud Bog readers on the Struttin' In The Ruts Mud Bog in Mount Carmel TN. As far as we know this event will resume in April 2011. After talking to the event manager/owner last year he was seriously considering opening up a mud track as well, for mud racing, the top fuel kind, however he was searching for some guard rails a must for such an event. I am not sure if he found any or not. Since my blog seems to be the only information on the web for this event I figured I would update all you Mud Diggers on what we have heard.

Struttin in the ruts mud racing is usually scheduled to open in April & runs through October...gates open at 1pm but racing doesn't start until later usually 5pm from what I recall. You can bring your vehicle or bring your lawn chairs and enjoy. Classes for every vehicle (by tire size). Last year admission was $5, kids under a certain age were free and a $20 entrance fee to run your truck. I imagine it's still around the same price. Take Hwy 11W from Kingsport towards Rogersville, turn Rt onto Bradley Creek Rd. (1st Rt past Church Hill Fire Dept. St. #2, just past Volunteer High School) Take Bradley Creek Rd. over to Carter's Valley Rd., turn Left and take the 1st right onto Gravely Valley Rd. The event is about 1/2 of mile on the left, just follow the signs. It's a 200' pit. the depth varies, the pit is probably 6' deep but the mud is usually around 3' deep or so at the end, there should be a sign in the median on 11w just passed volunteer high school.

For all of you who are searching the web for the old Hog Lot Mud Bog in Rogersville, TN...it is no longer in existence...sorry :( so come on out to Struttin' In The Ruts and support this family event.

Now Pat is ready to join us Mud Diggers and trail crawlers with this 79 Jeep Wagoneer Golden Eagle on 44's. Can't wait to hit the trails with Patrick and family this year :)

I Can't Wait for Days in Rodanthe this Summer

As you turn on to HWY. 12 South, at the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, you are not quite sure how to take what you are seeing (I know I couldn't) and what you are not seeing. Nature is what you are privileged to look at. No buildings or billboards assault you. For about ten minutes you ride only seeing nature, and then you come upon the Bonner Bridge, which crosses over the Pamlico Sound. This is the last connection you have to the rest of the world. When you cross the bridge you are now on Hatteras Island and I remember getting chills, at this point in our trip.

After crossing the Bonner Bridge, you will continue to see huge sand dunes on your left; they are all that separate you from the ocean. You can see the ocean between the valleys of the dunes. On your right is Pamlico Sound, which is in full view on most of your ride.

The first village you come to is Rodanthe. There are two adjoining villages; Waves and Salvo. No traffic lights here. And there is only one franchised business, Dairy Queen. No Starbuck’s, McDonald’s, Burger King or Domino’s. Mom and pop restaurants and businesses are what they have here. The closest grocery store is 20 minutes away. You can get necessities from the privately owned gas stations/convenience stores.

You can literally have your feet in the ocean and in less than five minutes, you can walk over to the Palmellico Sound and put your feet in over there, as well as kite, wind surf or kayak. You can also walk from the beginning of Rodanthe to the end of Salvo in about two hours, depending on whether you walk on the road or the beach. Entire families can be seen not only walking to the beach, but down the street to The Conery for ice cream or up the street to Lisa’s Pizza for dinner.

The beaches are not crowded with people but full of wildlife. Pelicans, seagulls, sand pipers, porpoises, whales and horseshoe crabs are common sights here. Little sand crabs can be seen nervously scurrying in and out of their holes and large sand crabs come out and stare at you trying to figure out what you’re doing sitting right outside of their hole.

Rodanthe is still a pretty secluded place and certainly captivating. Some of nature’s finest works are all around you all day and all night. I am making my reservations now and cannot wait to make it back to the OBX this summer for fabulous Days and Nights in Rodanthe!!!

Super Bowl Weekend!!!

I love love love Super Bowl Weekend and look forward to throwing out the food and beverages for my friends and family every year! Young and old gathered at my place this year to watch the game and laugh at the commercials. WE had an absolute BLAST this year! My neighbor and I even put on our own show at half time ;) I ended up winning $50 in the football pool at work too...can't beat that. Too bad my Steeler's couldn't pull it off but there's always next year.

The ROTC Military Banquet and Ball

This past Saturday we attended my Neice Taylor's Military Banquet and Ball where we enjoyed a fabulous dinner and awards ceremony. Taylor is the commanding officer of her ROTC High School group and she made her whole family extremely proud. She was also nominated to be on the Royal Court so we were all hoping that she would be crowned Queen which she was!! Taylor's name was called over and over again for every award or commondation that was given on this special night and at the end of the award ceremony she was promoted to Lieutenant Commander the highest rank that they have. I am so proud of this exceptional young woman and look forward to seeing her continue to prosper in college this fall. Way to go Taylor!!!

This past weekend we finally got to break out of the house. The weather here in Tennessee turned warmer, the snow started melting and the skies were a beautiful color of blue. Work and life have been busy for all of us so our WONDERFUL friends Stephanie & Smiley suggested we hit the town Friday night and get something good to eat. We had a wonderful evening...great food, & lots of laughs...we love hanging out with these two fabulously happy newlyweds. Saturday we spent the day enjoying the weather and relaxing. It felt so good to get out and not have to wear three layers of clothes. Sunday Brian and I enjoyed a picnic by the Watauga River and then visted my sis. Thank you Mother Nature for a much needed weekend enjoying your beauty.

Happy Anniversary & Musical New Year's Eve

New Year's Eve this year was fabulously entertaining. Brian & I started out our special day celebrating our 16th wedding anniversary. I am so lucky to have married my true soul mate and I didn't think it was possible to love him more than I did the day I married him but I swear I grow more in love with this man everyday.

Later that night I decided it would be awesome to call up all of my neighbors who play instruments and have a musical New Year's Eve. Two text messages later I had 4 guitar players, 2 mandolin players, a harmonica player and singer/songwriters. We all headed down to Ryan's area in the basement, fired up the PA System and the amps and had an absolute BLAST!!! We sang, danced, and welcomed in the New Year. It was awesome and I can't wait to do it again. I am constantly amazed by all of the local talent around here and so many who share my love for music.

A Fabulous Christmas

This Christmas was so much fun and the Lord truly blessed us with a wonderful celebration of his birth. Brian and I really enjoyed our families and friends this year and our house was just filled with so much love and happiness which is what it is all about. Our favorite gifts were my new thumpin' Kenwood car stereo with Ipod connection, an Apple Ipad, Wii games, clothes, jewelry and Ryan got a really nice PA System so now we can sing and be heard around here :) We are all just big kids. We wrapped up the festivities by taking Brian's parents to see the movie True Grit which was a GREAT movie and then Saturday night we had a house full of our closest friends from near and far we had a blast!!! Sunday we woke to more snow!!! I love it and can't believe for once we are having a white Christmas in Tennessee. It's the first I can remember in years. I know people say they are glad to see Christmas be over but I'm not. I believe that if you are celebrating it in the right way, that is giving all of the glory to God and rejoicing for his birth, that you will experience the true meaning of Christmas and therefore enjoy all that this very special holiday has to offer. I can see this in all of the smiles from everyone in the pictures posted here. Look how happy all of us are. Thank you Jesus!

This past weekend was so much fun with Little Noah staying at our house. We had a Pre-Christmas weekend with him. I gave him a big helicopter & more blocks from Santa and we played and played all night into the next morning. Saturday afternoon we went to the Christmas Parade where Noah collected all kinds of candy and waved to Santa. This Monday morning we awoke to a winter wonderland of snow and after a brief attempt to get out we decided against it and stayed at the house.

We had an absolute blast this weekend at my husband's annual company Christmas party with our buddies and a very naughty Santa Claus. The food and refreshments were amazing, and the DJ was fabulous & everyone at our table were having way too much fun. The lighting and everything about the ballroom was perfect. I look forward to this every year and I must say this year was the best party yet!!! Just sharing some pictures from our AWESOME night one I will definately never forget :) P.S. just a side note Amber and I both ended up getting our dresses at Dress Barn...you have to love that store...It's one of my FAVES so props to them for the fun, comfortable, festive dresses that we wore.

Had to share this story because I can hardly believe what I have heard and it infuriates me. A friend of ours was visiting a local flea market over the weekend with his 7 year old son. As they were walking through the young boy evidentally came up on some puppies that were being sold there. All of a sudden the momma dog which happened to be a pit bull lunged at him out from under the table that was there and attacked this young boy for no apparent reason. The dog ripped his pants and bit him on the leg & thigh. Our friend tended to his son, tried to calm him down and checked over his wounds, by the time he looked up to try to find the owner of this dog the woman had taken the dog and run off. Our friend quickly called 911 and luckily there were some paramedics already there and they checked on the boy while the father contaced the local police. When the local police arrived they basically advised our friend that there wasn't anything they could do. When our friend asked the officer, "What if this dog had chewed his face off or something? or What if the dog has rabies?" and the officer got rude with him and said, "We are not in the what if game, we are dealing with the facts here and the fact is that we can't do anything sir." These police officers are always giving out parking tickets in the parking lot every weekend but are now saying they can't handle situations like this. Another officer advised our friend to contact another Sheriff's dept which happens to be in another county, and then was told by that county Sheriff to contact another county Sheriff. The facts are that the original officers who responded had jurisdiction at this particular flea market yet they wouldn't help this man and his son. On his own our friend was able to find out information on the woman and the dog from people that were there at the scene. When the woman was contacted about the dog first she didn't have the dog, then later said it was her dog, when asked if the dog had it's current shots she said yes that she administered them herself, when asked for proof she said she bought the vaccine at a local store, when our friend called that store he was told that they do not sell the rabies vaccine there. This dog should have been quarantined and watched for 2 weeks but now the dog is no where to be found. Now our friend's young son will have to take shots for rabies which when all is said and done the treatments will end up costing our friend $9000. He finally contacted a lawyer yesterday and was told that he would take the case and not to worry or try to make contact with anyone else regarding the matter.

I am just beside myself and disgusted by the way this small town police department dropped the ball here and let this woman and her dog walk away scott free and the way they were rude and unhelpful to our friend and his son. Also the owner of the flea market was rude when our friend contacted her to let her know about the incident and to tell her that there are dangerous dogs on the property. So beware if you visit your local flea market. There may be dangerous animals there that can and will attack you or your kids. Don't assume you are safe or that the athorities in the immediate jurisdiction will help you because evidentally they don't have to. Just makes me sick!

A Peeping Tom???? Really?????

My sister called me this morning to advise me on how no one in her house slept last night because evidentally they have discovered they have a peeping tom in their neighborhood. I mean seriously...some idiot was dumb enough to go into their backyard, where there is a very large dog and go up onto the back deck and peek into my neice's window. She had recently been having trouble with her blinds and wasn't able to fix them so when she went into the room last night and noticed a face in her window she immediately shoved pillows in the window to obscure the view and then she told my sister. My sister went into to the TV room to tell my Brother in Law and when he went outside the dummy was still there and took off running. Fortunate for the peeper he was able to out run Ed, who then got into his truck and drove around the area in search of the perp. So what do you to if you discover you have a peeping tom? I suggest investing in a trail camera one that hunters use to scout for deer. We have a Wildgame camera at my house and it uses infrared technology to video or take pictures at night time. The animal or peeper will never know it is there. Get the evidence together and then Call The Cops!!!

What a special weekend!! I have never been so proud of two teenagers in my entire life. Both of whom have faced tremendous struggles and are overcoming them with grace and dignity. My niece Taylor invited me to her ROTC meet on Saturday and I have to say I had no idea what it was about. I was amazed by the discipline of these amazing young people. They went through their drills with such detail and intense precision. I am so proud of her for joining this program and sticking with it. My hope for Taylor is that she will follow her dream of joining the military and furthering her education.

On Sunday I was so excited because Law & Grace our Sheriff's musical group were paying a visit to our church. I had heard them before and was blown away by their amazing sound and how all of the members were law enforcement officers who are dedicated to using their music to bring people to know the Lord Jesus Christ. On this night I was so proud once again because the Sheriff extended an invitation to my son Ryan to perform a song with them. Ryan gladly accepted and joined the officers on stage for an instrumental performance of Amazing Grace. I was once again in awe at the obstacles a teen can overcome and how GREAT God is! I am so proud of my son and my niece Taylor. Bravo kids!!!

The Season for Being Thankful

Life has been full of interesting twists and turns and changes for me over the past few months. I have not felt this good in a long time and since it's almost Thanksgiving time again I felt it would be a great time to reflect on the things I am thankful for.

God has blessed me in so many ways and I feel like I have been awakened recently. I am happy to report that my son Ryan is doing very well and I couldn't be happier for him. He is moving in the right direction and no doubt this is due to so many who have been praying and supporting him. He has a lot to be thankful for believe me! He has given me a few wrinkles and gray hairs (which I dye blonde of course) but I wouldn't trade him for anything. I am thankful for the son God has given me and the lessons he continues to teach us everyday.

Brian and I of course are still enjoying wedded biss after over 20 years together :) I am so thankful to the Lord for sending him into my life. I feel like the luckiest girl to have him as my husband and best friend. I feel sorry for those who are married to players who don't value their marriage like my husband does. I am thankful that my hubby isn't at work, at school or in the neighborhood looking for other female relationships like some guys I know of. I am thankful that I can trust in my marriage. I am greatful for a happy home.

My Mom's diabetes is under control and my sister is doing great with her job and promotion another thing to be thankful for. Our family's Fall Festival for the church was a huge success this year, tons of fun as well as our church revival. I am thankful for the wonderful vacation trips we got to take this year. We had a blast in Wears Valley camping, in Savannah, and in the Outer Banks (OBX) which was an absolutely gorgeous beach vacation. I got two promotions at work this year and our company is staying very busy which is definitely a blessing in these economic times. I love my job!!

I am thankful that the Lord has guided me in a different direction this year when it comes to my friends. He saw fit to lead me away from a friendship that wasn't good for me and has led me toward some wonderful new friends as well as back to some older ones. My new situation is so much more positive, and has made me realize what kind of friends I need to be around.

I am thankful not only for my relatives, my family but also so very thankful for my church family. I know without a doubt that the Lord is working within this AWESOME group of souls. They are such caring, God loving people and truly hold special places in my heart.

I could go on and on and on with how I am blessed but I will end here for now with a little poem for your reading enjoyment. I hope everyone enjoys a safe & happy Thanksgiving holiday.

Noah's Birthday

Well our little Noah (my nephew) had another birthday...it's so hard to believe he's growing up. This year when my sister asked him where he wanted to have a birthday party he said Chuck E Cheese!!! The kid had never been to Chuck E Cheese in his life so we figured he must have seen the commercials so his wish came true. He had an absolute blast. We all did. He got lots of presents and spent hours playing the games. Happy Birthday little man.

We have enjoyed several weekend home visits with Ryan and it's hard to believe he's been away from home for 2 months already. One more month to go. Meanwhile we enjoyed a great trip to Savannah, GA. Today family and friends gathered to celebrate Ryan's 17th birthday a little early since we aren't sure if we will get to see him on the actual day. He always asks to eat at his favorite Mexican restaurant El Ranchito. We love their food. It's funny how he loves Mexican food because when I was pregnant with him I craved tacos...Brian would stop on his way home from work everyday and get me a six pack of tacos from Taco Bell to help with my cravings. I think that may have something to do with his love for mexican food. It's hard to believe that it's been 17 years ago during the Great Blizzard of 1993 that I gave birth to my beautiful baby boy. Time is going by too fast. I'm so glad that everyone came together today for Ryan...he has so many people who love him and support him. He is truly blessed in that regard.

Sunshine, Friends and Mud Bogging in East Tennessee!!!

Finally we got a break from all of the snow that we've been bombarded with, and slowly but surely this week the temperatures began to creep steadily upward, today we ended up somewhere in the high 50's. All of us have cabin fever. This weekend was perfect. We kept my 3 year old nephew Noah on Friday night and as usual everyone in our house turns into a little kid again, it's always a blast when he comes to stay the night. He is another one who loves to play the Wii. You should see this little guy playing those games. He LOVES IT!!!

With the melting snow has come some deep mud holes around our house and Brian couldn't wait to get out in his big Ford and tear it up!! Nice action photos taken by my son Ryan. Great work guys! I think he's warming up for the Struttin in the Ruts mud bog in Mt. Carmel, TN, at least we are hoping that they do it again this year.

Super Bowl Weekend & Taylor's Military Ball

It was a fun weekend for us. Friday night I went to my sister's house to take pictures of my beautiful neice before she attended her ROTC Military Ball. She was stunning in her dress and beaming for the camera. She received several awards and was promoted in rank. Congratulations girly!

Noah spent the weekend with us and we had a blast with him. Then his mom and daddy came Sunday and we all watched the Super Bowl with our neighbor JR. Brian and I donned our Colt's shirts and cooked up a bunch of yummy snacks for everyone. Too bad the Colt's didn't win this one but it was a great time anyway.

Lazy Snow Daze!!

Brian and I enjoyed a really nice weekend. On Friday we celebrated Brian's Mom's birthday then came home and watched the snow begin to fall. I love winter weekends like this one. On Saturday we enjoyed being completely lazy all morning, cuddling on the couch watching movies, when we finally did emerge we played in the snow a little bit then headed back in for more movies and games. We are still really enjoying our Wii and games. I was on a huge roll and beat Brian at all of the sports games...he couldn't believe it. We still enjoy each other so much. On Sunday we went for a drive in the snow. Did a little bit of four wheeling. Funny thing was this time I didn't take a ton of pictures. I was too busy looking at the beautiful scenes...all of that white fluffy stuff blanketing the fields and houses. These were the only pictures taken over the weekend. I guess you can see a little bit of snow in the back grounds.

Just sitting here pondering the soreness in my muscles and thinking that I need to spread the word about the Wii Fit Plus and EA Sports Active Personal Trainer and how much I am enjoying exercising this way. I never thought of exercise as something fun, it was more or less a chore for me. Of course I enjoy the experience when I take a walk or swim in my pool but to just get on a treadmill or pay for a gym membership, let's just say, it wasn't for me. If you are like me then please don't wait any longer. If you don't have a Wii, go buy one and then purchase these two items pictured above. You won't regret it I promise. I enjoy going home everyday stepping on my balance board (which comes with the Wii Fit Plus) and hearing those words...measuring...measuring...as I wait for the results. The cool thing about both of these programs is that you can track your progress, set goals or change them, and track how well you are doing. There are games that exercise all parts of the body and even yoga and strength training exercises on the Fit. The Active Personal Trainer kicks my butt, in a good way of course, and I love using the resistance band that comes with it. I never would have dreamed that a big rubber band would work out my upper body out like it does. I feel AMAZING these days and don't think I will be giving up my Wii workout anytime soon. Get moving people...there's no excuse now that exercise can be fun!

You know the old saying what you are doing on New Year's you will be doing all year? I hope that is true because we were having a blast surrounded by our friends and laughing until our cheeks hurt. This New Year's Eve was one of the best ever. Brian and I celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary and had a great time all night long with our wonderful friends. We are so blessed. My resolution is to keep using my Wii Fit Plus and my Wii Personal trainer and I don't believe I will have any trouble doing it because it is loads of fun and I can't wait to get home everyday to use it. I've already lost weight and I hope to look really toned before long. Here's to the New Year and I hope 2010 brings you all of the happiness you can stand.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!!! Brian and I have really had fun playing in the snow. It reminds me of the winter days growing up in West Virginia and I become a child again when it snows like this. The snow started really coming down on Friday and by the time I got home from work it was starting to get really treacherous on the roads. Brian and I snuggled up on the couch and watched the beautiful work of mother nature at her finest. When we awoke on Saturday morning we were so excited to see the final results. So we got out as soon as we could to ride the four wheeler then fire up the Xterra and ride around the local roads and take pictures. It was wild. Cars were off the road EVERYWHERE!!! Oh yes!! We also went to see the movie AVATAR in 3D...it was AWESOME!!! A must see movie. We finished up our Christmas shopping and continued to play all weekend. I've had a blast and now I am definately in the Christmas mood.

This past weekend while in Pigeon Forge with my family one of my very best friends informed me that I got yet another ribbon for one of my photos. This was Nature Weekend at Steele Creek Park & Nature Center and they held a photo contest. The picture above that I submitted one 2nd Place. I was so happy!!! I got a beautiful red ribbon and note from the judges and $50. They will keep the picture for display at the Nature Center for everyone to see. Thanks again to Cheri and my Mom for encouraging me to keep it up on the photography front.

FYI...I just had to update everyone on my latest good fortune. I got a promotion at work. I am now full time but I still have great hours...I'm home by 3:45 pm everyday. I got a generous pay increase, salary, vacation package, insurance, etc... I am now the EMR Accounts Administrator and the Production Control Mgr. for the Machinery Components Division and I'm very excited about my new responsibilities.

Rhythm and Roots 2009

Rhythm and Roots rolled into our town with so many fun things to do and concerts to see. Saturday morning, still basking in our glory from winning in the photo contest, Cheri and I did the 2 mile walk. It was a great way to start off the morning. My sister in law, Jennie, did the walk with us while my brother Doug did the 5k race. Later on that day Amber, Ed, Noah, and my clan headed out to go through main street and visit all of the vendors and see all of the many concerts that we possibly could. Brian and I ended up on our own Saturday night and the mood got even more exciting downtown as the night went on. I had the most awesome time there. There are so many amazing things to see and do and if you love music and you have the opportunity make sure you put Rhythm and Roots on your list of things to do.

Last night was GREAT!!!! My super awesome friend Cheri talked me into entering the Rhythm and Roots Festival's Annual Photo Competition and I never dreamed that out of all of those entries that I would get a ribbon for one of my photos. I knew Cheri would because she is very talented and has a great eye for photographic opportunities. Cheri and I met for the reception last night and we browsed through all of the amazing photos and then we spotted one of mine with a 3rd place ribbon on it. I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT!!!! I was so excited! Then when we wandered into the back room where they were serving refreshments we saw the Blue Ribbon winning photos and there it was...my friend Cheri had done it! So she took home a blue ribbon in the monochrome category and I took home a 3rd place ribbon in the Best of Bristol category. It was a great night for 2 amateur photographers and friends.

Summertime Flew By

Wow! Where did the summer go? We have been so busy with remodeling the house next door that before I blinked the summer is now gone. And I have some catching up to do on this blog. Hmmm...where to start? Ok...we've enjoyed spending time downtown this year with family and friends. Love the concerts and Border Bash and can't wait for the Rhythm and Roots this weekend. My friend Cheri and I are walking in the 2 mile walk in the morning then going to have a blast downtown for the rest of the day and night on Saturday. I love it! My neice Taylor turned 16 years old and got a really sweet Toyota Avalon! My neice Courtney made head cheerleader! The company picnic was this past weekend...we had a blast...Pat K. took his son Emory and we took Noah...the kids have a blast at this thing and so do the parents. I even won some money this time...woot! Woot! Also Noah has become a huge Dukes fan and on the way to the picnic his uncle Brian took him to a car show and he got to see the General Lee up close and personal. He was in awe!

I have been super busy lately since we have been remodeling the house next door and any spare time I get we make a point to go out and have some summer fun. Over the weekend we cruised downtown and went to the car show and then did some window shopping and ended up in the square listening to live music. It was great...this time it wasn't bluegrass two young groups performed and they were very hip. We loved the atmosphere and watching the people, the weather couldn't have been more perfect and it was very relaxing. Then Saturday we drove down to Elizabethon for the Saturday night car show there. We went early and stopped by Big Johns Closeouts to then we stopped in at a great little store across the street. They had the best Cheese steak and milkshakes! Mmmm! Then we took Ryan to the guitar store and later I shopped while the guys checked out all of the cars. Sunday Brian and I got out early and went to the lake. It was FABULOUS! The rest of the day I stayed in the pool...our temperatures here are finally right where they should be. Last night we were able to visit the Bristol Motor Speedway and watch the Modified and Truck Races from the Edward's Suite. We always have a great time with Brian's coworkers and I especially partaking of all of the great food and drinks that they offer. Ryan has started back to school and is loving his classes this year. Big relief for his mother :)

This weekend we went back to WVa for the Lilly Family Reunion...it's an annual event and this year they were going for the Guiness Book of World Records...not sure yet if we made it or not but I hope so. Dad took the RV up and Friday night we ate dinner with all of the clan and explored the Reunion grounds. Then later that night we went to mom's house for a visit then we took off and went to a place I hadn't been since I was about 6 years old. To the Beckley Motor Speedway and we watched the dirt track racing...it was AWESOME! On Saturday morning we met up with Dad again and he took us on a long trek through the winding mountain roads down to the original site of the town where our ancestors came from. It was a beautiful spot in the middle of nowhere alongside the area where the Little Bluestone River meets the Bluestone River. He told us where the post office used to stand, where the gravesites were, etc...it was very interesting. After that we made our way back up the mountain and down again into one of my favorite towns in WVa...Hinton. I love going to the Dairy Queen there. You can sit and eat while watching the river flow by. A wonderful experience. On the way home I drove the guys back thru Bluestone State Park and Pipestem State Park places we used to spend alot of time when I was a little girl. It was a very special trip and one I'll not soon forget.

The HUGE Lilly family reunion is going on and this year they are going for a world record. Guiness is supposed to be there to certify the event. Live music, games, food, should be fun. Dad is taking the RV and on Saturday we are going to the river. I should have tons of pics to post when I get back.

School starts back on Monday for Ryan. I can't believe the poor kids have to go back to school the second week in August. I think it's ridiculous! Oh well...nobody said life was fair.

Obama comes to town!

Yesterday was very exciting because the President of the United States came to our neck of the woods for a town hall meeting with the employees of the local Kroger's grocery store. My sister and her daughter came over and we were able to watch from right here on our property as Air Force One made it's final approach to the airport just a few miles down the road (which I captured on video) and as the president's envoy made it's way down I-81 we were standing on the back porch of my mother in law's house (next door) taking pictures, waving and hollering. It was exciting even for my husband who is not an Obama fan. As he said whether you like him or not he's still our president and it is not everyday that he comes to town and definately not everyday that he drives right behind your house. It was GREAT to see. My sister was very happy to have been able to stand 50 feet from his limo at the edge of the hay field while he drove by. Just had to share the experience...I'll never forget it!

Noah mows the yard

Today I mowed the yard and Noah came by to help his Aunt Ashley. He loved riding around the yard. You couldn't wipe the grin off of his face. Uncle Brian came home and he even drove him around. It was great. I just had to preserve this moment.

Amber's Birthday Dinner

Amber Jane had a great 34th birthday...we grilled out on the back deck at her house and even Dad dropped by for some yummy food and cake. She loved the pool I bought her and the big Amish star. She also got several cards and some money, a coffee pot, some lotions, body sprays, and I made her a nice picture book of our trip this summer. I think she really enjoyed her special day.

On the way home we spotted some deer just down the road from the house...Brian is getting the hunting bug again...I know what you are thinking...it's way too early but not for the serious hunter. Right now he's thinking food plots, he's entered his party in for the quota hunts, and I am pretty sure the trail cams will be coming back out of hiding soon and probably an archery target as well. Look out deer!

Yesterday my husband celebrated his 38th Birthday and he got everything he wanted. His Mom, Dad, my sister, her husband and Noah stopped by for some food and desserts that I must say were delish! I outdid myself this time...I made a peach dessert that was wonderful (I will post the recipe later) and just the regular old birthday cake too. Brian got some great gifts as well. He got a new STIHL weedeater, a Bosch multi tool that is totally awesome...it will do anything, a new battery for his 4 wheeler, a bunch of gift cards to Lowes, Bass Pro, etc...a new tape measure, and square, and fishing lure. Let's just say he racked up. Happy Birthday to my Honey!

Today my Daddy turned 60 and we had a great get together for him. Doug and I cooked some awesome steaks and I had the Bristol Motor Speedway announce his birthday on the giant sign. It was a great day. Happy Birthday Dad.

Last night was a blast! Amber and I decided to try our new tents out and test Noah to see if he would be a good tent camper. So we set up camp in my backyard. We never dreamed it would be so much fun. We grilled out, had a bonfire, and then friends came by and we sat around the fire listening to Ryan, Amber, Doug, and Tim play the guitars and sing. Noah did GREAT...he loved sleeping in his big tent. We are definately ready to load up next time and head out to the lake.

Mamaw turns 90 years young.

Sunday brought more fun when we went to help Brian's grandmother celebrate her 90th Birthday. It was a great cookout despite the fact that there was a little bit of drizzle thankfully the church had let us borrow their tents and they worked perfectly. It didn't dampen anyone's spirits. We enjoyed seeing some of Brian's family who we hadn't seen in quite awhile. Everyone enjoyed getting their family pictures taken with Mamaw and the food and fellowship couldn't be better. Happy 90th Mamaw...we love you!

4th of July was a blast

We enjoyed an awesome 4th of July this year. Brian and I started off our day by sitting by the pool in the morning just talking and watching the birds and the water. Then Brian and Ryan decided to drive Brian's Dad's old car in the annual 4th of July parade. So they sprayed it off, found a flag and put it in the back and they headed out to get in line. I loaded up my camera and headed out to meet my friends so we could all enjoy the festivities and I could get a good spot to take pics. The parade was great this year and I've never seen so many people show up for it before. After the parade we headed to Whitney's house for the big cookout and fireworks party. We had a great time playing horseshoes, badminton, partaking of good food and socializing with friends. After the sun went down the fireworks started and I have to say that my husband really out did himself this year. He had an unbelievable array of fireworks and Whitney even put on her own show with the Roman candles. It was a 4th of July to remember for sure.

Noah's First Trip to the Zoo

Friday was a very exciting day. We got up early and headed to Knoxville to meet up with Amber, Ed, Taylor and Noah for his very first trip to the zoo. I couldn't wait to see Noah's reaction to the animals because he loves them. The weather was perfect and everyone had a blast. Taylor even rode the camels. I especially enjoyed the new baby chimp "George"...he was soooooo cute! We all enjoyed riding the carousel in the kids corner the newest part of the zoo. It was definately a time to remember.

I am really looking forward to the upcoming weekend. I love the 4th of July. I love all of the cookouts, parades, and celebrating this awesome country that we live in. We have 4 days off so Friday we are going to take Noah, Amber & Ed to the zoo, also going to Whitney's on the 4th for a fabulously fun time and fireworks extravaganza with all of our friends, and then Sunday we will be going to a huge family gathering to celebrate Brian's grandmother turning 90 years old. Wouldn't miss any of this for the world. We've made plans to go back out to the lake on Monday and enjoy mine and Brian's favorite past time, boating. I'm sure we will have plenty of pictures to post next week. Everyone be safe and responsible out there whether you are on the roads, the lakes, or just around the house letting off fireworks.

Well the family is finally over this debilitating virus that we were all plagued with. Last weekend we were all in bed unable to function at all. This weekend however we enjoyed Friday after work remodeling the house next door that we've purchased and then Saturday night enjoying refreshments on the porch with our good buddy Pat. Today we celebrated the 4th of July service at Steele Creek Park with our church family. It was a beautiful day, wonderful service, even Ryan and Billy and Ronnie entertained us with some good old gospel music.

Last Sunday was very eventful. Not only did Cheri and I go on a photo shoot but that night our friends, Daniel, Whitney, and Bo showed up for an impromptu concert by Ryan...Daniel joined in on drums but was quickly shut down by Bo who only wanted to hear Ryan play. We had a lot of fun with our buddies.

Just some random happenings in my world this week. Jerry here at work was kind enough to share some trailcam pics of this doe and her brand new babies. If you click on the pics and enlarge them you can see them alot better...anyway...I have been slacking on putting up my deer cam lately...I need to take care of that this afternoon...I love getting the pics of the does with their little ones.

Amber, Taylor and I went for a walk near their house in Elizabethton yesterday and we stumbled across the historic cemetary there. This was yet another neat old cemetery...they had graves dating back to the Revolutionary War and a Col. in the War of 1812. The picture above is of a new headstone the city erected for the founder of Elizabethon.

The last picture...well what can I say...let me start by explaining that Brian's parents and us have purchased the house and land next to ours. It is an older house and we have a lot of work to do. Anyway...we took Whitney up to show her the inside the other day and among a few boxes of random stuff that was left behind by the previous owners we found this brand new, bright blue, fuzzy robe (this pic doesn't do the colors justice it was taken with Whit's camera phone). Whitney convinced Brian to try it on...why you ask, because we are just crazy like that! We got a big kick out of him in this ridiculous thing. Thank you Brian for entertaining us that day.

Struttin' in the Ruts Mud Bog in Mt. Carmel Tennessee

Last night Brian and I made the 45 minute drive from our house to the Mt. Carmel or Carter's Valley part of Tennessee to check out the Struttin' in the Ruts Mud Bog that is held every Saturday night. We got a late start but arrived just in time to watch some of the ATV's run and then the final run of the big trucks in the big mud pit. There were about 10 entries and 3 managed to finally push their way through the deep soupy mud and make it all the way through. It was really exciting. The pit has changed since last summer and seems to be a bit longer and the mud is deeper. We love it. If you get a chance one Saturday night you really should go check it out. Take some chairs and back your vehicle up to the fence that runs alongside the big pit. You will really enjoy it I'm sure! Last year Brian took home the first place money in his class...I don't know if he can do it this year or not...the mud is THICK AND DEEPER now. Stay tuned.

Ok...just an update on the Struttin' In The Ruts Mud Bog Take Hwy 11W from Kingsport towards Rogersville, turn Rt onto Bradley Creek Rd. (1st Rt past Church Hill Fire Dept. St. #2, just past Volunteer High School) Take Bradley Creek Rd. over to Carter's Valley Rd., turn Left and take the 1st right onto Gravely Valley Rd. The event is about 1/2 of mile on the left, just follow the signs. It's a 200' pit. the depth varies, the pit is probably 6' deep but the mud is usually around 3' deep or so at the end. It's $20 to enter the pit competition and $5 for spectators. It's my understanding that they are having it every Saturday night still.

Yesterday we stole Doug's 52 and washed all of the dust off of it and Brian started painting the wheels and rotating the tires. We had a lot of fun with this car yesterday. I want to take it to the Elizabethton Car Show one Saturday night. It will be neat to see people's reactions. It's always a coin toss around our house whether to go to the Elizabethton Car Show or the Struttin' In The Ruts Mud Bog on Saturday nights in the summer.

Also yesterday was teenager hangout day at my house. Ryan, Travis and his bro Ryan and Katherine invaded the pool and hot tub. They had a good time listening to music and swimming. It was their last day of school for the year. I guess they will all be Junior's next year...but grades aren't in yet. I'm just crossing my fingers.
